Essential Gear: Diaper Change Pad

When we prepare for a trip, whether it’s an afternoon excursion or an overseas adventure, without a doubt the first thing that goes into the diaper bag is the diaper change pad.

We’ve actually accumulated a small stack of change pads, but this one (that came with my jj cole diaper bag) is my favourite: it’s large enough that Charlotte still fits on it, it has wipeable plastic on the inside, and an outside pocket big enough to hold a diaper and a small container of wipes, it comes with a nifty carrying strap, and it’s pretty too!

When travelling with a baby, you never know when or where a diaper disaster may strike. And outside of large western cities (and sometimes even in them), public bathrooms equipped with clean and functioning diaper chaning stations are few and far between. Oh the nasty places I’ve changed diapers! Countless public bathroom floors, street corners and public squares, various moving vehicles, and random places in museums, cafes, and shopping malls.

But thanks to my trusy diaper change pad, I’ve never had to lay my precious child down directly on any of those dirty surfaces. And with my diaper change pad, I can change Charlotte’s diaper virtually anywhere there’s enough room to lay it down.

Diaper changes away from home are never fun, and never easy. But so long as I have my diaper change pad with me, I’m ready to face a poopy disaster of any size, no matter where we are
