Hello. My name is Taryn.  I have a very bad case of wanderlust.

I must warn you that wanderlust is highly contagious, and can be caught just by reading my blog.

Before we decided to start having babies, J. (that’s my husband, baby-daddy and best friend) and I were freakishly avid travellers. We’d both been on long backpacking trips, lived abroad, and knew the ins-and-outs of the best frequent flyer programs. We would take off to London for the weekend. We would decide on a whim to spend a few days in a random US city. Once, we went all out and took a 10-day vacation, during which we visited no fewer than four countries. That’s what I mean my freakishly avid.

When I was pregnant, we vowed to keep travelling, and promised each other that having a baby would not stop us from seeing the world. And we have stuck to our word. Since Charlotte was born in 2010, we have dragged her cute little bum around 15 countries. We’ve adjusted our level of comfort somewhat- we now prefer to stay in chain hotels where we know the bathrooms are clean and no creepy crawlies will bite us at night- in some ways we’re just as adventurous as ever (Mongolian grasslands adventure in the works!) We want Charlotte to learn that it really is a small world after all, and that there is so much to see, learn, explore, and experience out there.

In 2011 Charlotte and I moved to Beijing, China, leaving J. behind in Russia, where we were previously living. I spent a year as a temporary single mom, while adjusting to life in a foreign country. Let’s just say that, despite J.’s frequent visits, it wasn’t easy. Thankfully, J. moved to Beijing over the summer

This blog is the story of our life living abroad, the story of my (mis)adventures as a quasi-single mom, and the story of our travels around the world. This blog is also a resource for other Mamas and Papas who have been bitten by the wanderlust bug and want the lowdown on travelling with infants.
